Review Mary Kay Makeup Brush Cleaner

IMG_20150102_163554012

The Mary Kay brush cleaner is pretty good. It smells nice and isn’t too overpowering like some that I have tried. Others I have tried are more like a soap, but this cleanser is more like an oil almost. It’s not messy at all and makes cleaning your brushes so much easier!

IMG_20150102_163535266

To use it you wet the brush with the spray. I recommend doing this over the sink so it doesn’t get everywhere. You take a tissue and wipe the brush on it until it’s clean. It works really well, I was skeptical, but then I saw the colors coming off the brushes. Once it’s clean you just shape it up and lay it out to dry like the first round I cleaned in the picture. It’s one of the best brush cleaners I’ve used, and I will probably buy more when I run out, but I always like trying new things so you never know.

Happy Pantone Color of the New Year!! Palette Review and Look

10420717_10152545459100439_2092404342_o

Hi, hello, and Happy New Year!

I know bloggers are super committed to blogging everyday right now. Maybe it was their resolution, maybe they just are excited to have a fresh start. For me, it’s a little of both. I was terrible at keeping up with my beauty blog in 2014 and I don’t want this year to be like that. If I write them all on Sundays and schedule them through the week then it should be easy to maintain. That being said, let’s look at my Christmas present from my sister!

THE SEPHORA/PANTONE UNIVERSE COLOR OF THE MONTH PALETTE

IMG_20150102_194437227

The palette has lots of different colors and four different finishes! Also if you are more visual, you can watch the first impressions and swatches video on my channel here!

IMG_20150102_194458616

There are four different finishes; matte, satin, metallic, and glitter. The glitter and metallic ones will give a lot of fall out so you have to be careful with them. The satins are nice and most of them are really pigmented. The mattes are my favorite, I always gravitate towards matte shadows and the Marsala Matte is so pretty.

The mattes are all very pigmented. I am drawn to the colors Hot Chocolate which is a rich brown and Dusty Olive which is an olive green as the name suggests. In the metallics I love Butterrum which is a really pretty gold color.

THE STARS OF THE SHOW

There they are in the middle of the palette. These are the Marsala shadows.

TL – Marsala Matte  TR -Marsala Satin BL – Marsala Metallic BR – Marsala Glitter

I love the versatility of the palette and I love that you can create so many looks with it. The Marsala Matte is definitely a color I will wear a lot this year. I think that it can be an every day color when worn correctly. I am impressed with the overall quality of the palette. Hopefully once I get through the top layer of the glitter shadows, there won’t be as much fall out.

Tell me in the comments what you think about the Sephora Pantone COTY Palette and if you will be purchasing it.

Your Face Smells Like Nutmeg and It’s Clean

cropped-10420717_10152545459100439_2092404342_o11.jpg

I’m all about trying natural remedies and scrubs for my skin so I thought I would work on clearing out my pores for the new year. Weird, maybe, but I thought what the heck. I hate blackheads, and googled some natural ways to clear them up.

I came upon Milk and Nutmeg

IMG_20150101_152141456

The instructions said to mix the two until they made a paste  you could put onto your face as a scrub.

IMG_20150101_152204733

It never really made a paste, but I went with it. I put it on and rubbed it on my skin all over for three minutes. It smelled strong, I’m not a huge fan of nutmeg on its own. I washed it all off my face and it felt soft. At a glance it did seem like my pores were clearer.

I followed the treatment with Witch Hazel. Since I opened up my pores with the scrub I wanted to go ahead and use it as a toner.

IMG_20150101_153303419

I also wanted a light moisturizer so I used my Cetaphil all over.

IMG_20150101_153409366

In conclusion, I think the nutmeg/milk combo worked. I wasted a lot of milk. If you do this I suggest just letting a tiny bit coat the bottom of the bowl and not using as much as I did. Otherwise I think this is a nice gentle scrub that can be made from your left over pumpkin pie ingredients and some milk.

Let me know if you try it.

How is Vlogmas Going?

HOW IS VLOGMAS GOING?

10420717_10152545459100439_2092404342_o

Since I decided to do Vlogmas for my channel on Youtube I have been kicking myself that I also didn’t do Blogmas. I plan to stay on top of my blog in 2015 and have purchased a planner to make sure that happens. Had I done Blogmas it would have forced me to post daily. Alas, Vlogmas happened.

There are some of the thumbnails. youtube.com/bowsnnails

It has been a lot of fun and a little difficult to vlog daily. I vlog on my cell phone – the Droid Turbo and it actually does really well making it easy for me to vlog pretty much anywhere.

There are boring days, days where nothing happens, and days when just the most random stuff comes up. Nonetheless, I have been enjoying vlogmas and watching vlogs for all my Youtube friends Vlogmas days. If you are doing it this year, leave your channel in the comments, and I will check it out!!

Happy Vlogmas and December!

Thanks as always for reading!

Plight of the Youtuber

I adore making videos. It is so much fun to talk to the camera and come up with videos. That’s all it is though, it’s a lot of fun. I’m not trying to make money off of it or my blog. I have other ventures out there which I am trying to make money with, but when it comes to Youtube it’s really just for fun.

I have met a lot of people who are simply trying to make money. They worry about views, comments, promo, and sponsorship. I think that sucks all the fun out of it. Would I like 50,000 people to watch me put on makeup and think I’m a genius, yes, but I know that isn’t going to happen.

I have another Youtube channel for my makeup business, and I keep it completely separate, because I am not trying to sell anything on bowsnnails I’m just trying to play with makeup and have a good time. If you like it great! If you wanna comment great! If not, I’ll just keep making videos because it’s fun for me. I have some different ones coming out because I’m not trying to impress anyone. I’m just going to do me, and I hope if you are thinking of starting a channel or have one already that you are in it for fun. I hope you’re just going to do you.

Interview with the YouTuber – Beauty and Bliss

Today’s interview is with Hope from Beauty and Bliss!

 untitled

What is the one makeup product you can’t live without?

I wouldn’t be able to live without a good finishing spray or primer that helps keep my face matte. My face is oily, so there is no way my makeup would stay in place if I didn’t use them.

Why did you decide to start making videos?

I’ve always loved makeup. I’ve done tons of makeup applications for homecomings, proms, and events. I also got addicted to watching YouTube videos and reading blogs. After about a year and a half of wishing I could do it, I made it happen!

What’s your favorite color?

Pink! I own way too much pink stuff haha.

What is your favorite brand?

For high-end, I’ve been loving Estee Lauder recently. For drugstore, I’m a huge fan of both Revlon and NYX.

What’s one interesting thing about you?

I’ll be starting beauty school in the fall for a career in makeup artistry and Esthetics.

Do you believe in UFO’s?

Not really, but I do think some of the things people come up with about them are interesting!

How do you feel about zombies?

They don’t really bother me. I watch movies and television shows with them included all of the time.

What’s your favorite color eyeshadow?

I’ve been absolutely loving YDK by Urban Decay lately!

Tell us about your channel and blog:

I started my blog in September of 2013, and I started uploading videos onto my YouTube channel about a month after that. Both are centered around beauty, but I also blog/vlog about lifestyle, fashion, crafts, and just whatever I’m in the mood for. I’m hoping to make a huge success out of my blog and YouTube channel!

A New Spin on New Year’s Resolutions

Ebony of elnfashion.com came up with this amazing idea to celebrate the things we like about ourselves. It is a different take on New Year’s Resolutions and one I think we all need, as we are always trying to change things about ourselves. It is not often we focus on the positive, and things we like about ourselves.  It was a difficult challenge for me to come up with ten, which is something I should work on. Here they are, the ten things I like about me.
1. My eyes

I have natural blue eyes, and I love to play them up with different shadow colors.

2. My drive

As a blogger, fitness enthusiast, writer, youtuber, student, and full time employee when I do something, I give it my all. I think I like my drive because I see a lot of people with the potential to do great things that don’t do anything with it.

3. I can do some pushups

I was watching White Collar Fighters, and the guy couldn’t even do a single pushup, and I felt stronger than him. I might only get up to twenty, but I am working on it.

4. My creativity

I feel like I am a creative person both in blogging and normal writing I come up with some pretty sick ideas

5. I can draw

I can draw when I am looking at something. My nephew inherited the draw from your mind gene, and I received the can draw what you see gene. Our grandmother is an exceptional artist.

6. My apperance

For a thirty year old, I still look pretty young. I also inherited those genes. I can pass as a college student, and still get carded.

7. My home

My boyfriend and I have been lucky enough to buy our dream home, and spend most of our time there. It is kept up well {more by him than I} and we have added our own touch over the past couple of years.

8. I’m a good aunt

Between the two of us, we have six nephews. I try to pay attention to each and spend time playing with and talking to them when I can.

9. I have built up my running ability

When I started running, I couldn’t even go half a mile without stopping, and hyperventalating. Now I can run two miles without hurting myself. It makes me feel accomplished.

10. I’m good at communication

I talk to my Mom everyday, sometimes twice. It is important for me to stay in contact with my family living away from them. It is only two hours, but we don’t see each other enough, so it is good to catch up. The same goes for my brother, sister, Dad, and Grandmother. Luckily Facebook also allows me to stay in touch with extended family.

So there they are, 10 things I like about me. I encourage you to do this post as well and tag myself @bowsandnails and the wonderful creator of this idea @Ebzo on Twitter so we can share what you like about you.

I hope everyone has a safe and Happy New Year’s Eve/New Year, and here’s to 2014!!

❤ Emily
