A New Spin on New Year’s Resolutions

Ebony of elnfashion.com came up with this amazing idea to celebrate the things we like about ourselves. It is a different take on New Year’s Resolutions and one I think we all need, as we are always trying to change things about ourselves. It is not often we focus on the positive, and things we like about ourselves.  It was a difficult challenge for me to come up with ten, which is something I should work on. Here they are, the ten things I like about me.
1. My eyes

I have natural blue eyes, and I love to play them up with different shadow colors.

2. My drive

As a blogger, fitness enthusiast, writer, youtuber, student, and full time employee when I do something, I give it my all. I think I like my drive because I see a lot of people with the potential to do great things that don’t do anything with it.

3. I can do some pushups

I was watching White Collar Fighters, and the guy couldn’t even do a single pushup, and I felt stronger than him. I might only get up to twenty, but I am working on it.

4. My creativity

I feel like I am a creative person both in blogging and normal writing I come up with some pretty sick ideas

5. I can draw

I can draw when I am looking at something. My nephew inherited the draw from your mind gene, and I received the can draw what you see gene. Our grandmother is an exceptional artist.

6. My apperance

For a thirty year old, I still look pretty young. I also inherited those genes. I can pass as a college student, and still get carded.

7. My home

My boyfriend and I have been lucky enough to buy our dream home, and spend most of our time there. It is kept up well {more by him than I} and we have added our own touch over the past couple of years.

8. I’m a good aunt

Between the two of us, we have six nephews. I try to pay attention to each and spend time playing with and talking to them when I can.

9. I have built up my running ability

When I started running, I couldn’t even go half a mile without stopping, and hyperventalating. Now I can run two miles without hurting myself. It makes me feel accomplished.

10. I’m good at communication

I talk to my Mom everyday, sometimes twice. It is important for me to stay in contact with my family living away from them. It is only two hours, but we don’t see each other enough, so it is good to catch up. The same goes for my brother, sister, Dad, and Grandmother. Luckily Facebook also allows me to stay in touch with extended family.

So there they are, 10 things I like about me. I encourage you to do this post as well and tag myself @bowsandnails and the wonderful creator of this idea @Ebzo on Twitter so we can share what you like about you.

I hope everyone has a safe and Happy New Year’s Eve/New Year, and here’s to 2014!!

What I Got for Christmas!

Hello! I hope everyone had an amazing Holiday no matter what or how you celebrated. I had a great Christmas, and spent time with family! This year was fun and eventful with a couple of road trip, hyper nephews (6 of them from ages 9 months to 15)

These Furby guys freaked me out, they are so much more active and creepy than the one I had as a kid.

I saw a pay phone which shocked me because I didn’t think they even existed anymore. So of course I took a picture of it.

I also continued the tradition of creating Santa Dog, and making Rebel extremely uncomfortable posing for photographs.

So, with all that said, these are the things I got for Christmas. These are things that my family got for me, or I used my Christmas money to buy for myself. I enjoy getting money, because no one knows what you want better than you do. Am I right?

1 – The Naked 3 Palette from Urban Decay. So far so good. I have done a few looks with this palette, and I find there are two or three colors I use consistently in lots of looks. It’s my first Naked Palette, and makes me crave the other 2.

2 – Too Faced Candlelight Glow Highlighter. I am forever looking for a highlight that I love. This one has both a pink and white shimmer side so it can be used for both. I like the way it looks, but it doesn’t illuminate quite like some others I have tried.

3 – Benefit Erase Paste. I bought this to use under my eyes, and I have been impressed with it. I use it with another concealer, foundation, and powder concealer so it is hard to tell if it would work by itself.

I need to take better pictures of these things.

4 – Batiste Dry Shampoo. I like this although if I had to do it over I would get a different type, maybe the cherry?

5 – My sister gave me this Ciate Nail Collection, it is the Emerald Collection. It has a caviar, velvet, and sequin texture with a base paint in Ditch the Heels – an emerald color.

Here is a better picture from http://www.fashionmonitor.com/News/Zk5/Ciat%C3%A9-unveils-Emerald-3D-Manicure

I already made a mess with the caviar for an accent nail, and can’t wait to try the velvet and sequins! Thanks sis!!

6 – Velvet Sugar Body Mist. This smells soooo good, and it was my boyfriend’s favorite so of course I picked it up.

7 – Clinique Redness Solutions Mineral Pressed Powder

I originally thought I would use this for under-eye brightening, but if you have dry red cheeks, which sometimes happens to me, it does great covering redness. I have read reviews that the loose powder is better, but I do like a little bit of this for correcting.

8 – Ear muffs in a frilly purple! These are from my mom, and so cute. I hate for my ears to get cold when I run outside, and now they will be nice and warm.

Also from my Mom!

9 – Studded sweatshirt. It is so cute and comfortable with leggings.

10 – Pink and brown Sweater dress. I love sweater dresses, and pink is my favorite. This is a short sleeved one with a sort of argyle pattern. I see layering and tights in my future!

11 – My gorgeous jewelry from my love! They are sparkly and pretty blue!

So, that is most of what I got for Christmas except for some stocking stuffers, and a few other fun small things. I am looking forward to the new year, and lots of fun with the blog. Comment below and tell me the favorite thing you received for Christmas this year, or your Holiday gifts!

DIY December – Make your own Bow Ring!

Okay so I have been promising this post, and then I couldn’t get around to it. Here it is Christmas Eve and this post is happening. I made the ring, and it is beyond cute! Here is how I did it.

First you will need the following things;

thin ribbon
2 inch ribbon
crochet rings
a glue gun
a lighter

007You are going to take the thin ribbon and glue the edge of it to the ring. The crochet rings are what helps you keep your thread from tangling while you crochet, but they worked really well for this.

Cut a long piece of it and wrap it around the ring. 008 Keep wrapping it until you have completely covered the ring and then glue the edge down. Wrap it one more time and glue it again to make sure it stays secure and you can move on to making your bow.

009 Cut a piece of the thicker ribbon twice as long as you want your bow. 010

You are going to want to burn both sides quickly with the lighter to keep it from fraying.

011 and then fold it in half to create a crease in the middle.013

At this point you can fold the ends in to the crease and glue them down. I didn’t glue them down, because I was trying to do it a different way, but it will be easier to work with if you glue it down.

014 Now you are going to pinch it and put glue in the middle and pinch it together.

Pinch the sides together and wrap the Skinny ribbon around it.

Now all that’s left to do is glue your bow to the ring you created.

I made this one for my sister for Christmas. I am going to experiment with different ribbon.

I hope you will try this and let me know how it works for you.

Favorites and Eh… from Cyber Monday – Part One!

I got a lot of things on Cyber Monday. Some of the things I got I loved and still love so much. Other things I didn’t love as much, and am sharing with you first to get the bad out of the way. Welcome to my recap of unboxing, and trying my Cyber Monday goodies…

Julep Box

The first thing was a box of Julep goodies since they let non-Mavens shop in their store for Cyber Monday, or maybe it was Black Friday. Either way, I did some shopping. So when it came I was beyond excited to dig in!

So first what I loved was the pretty pinks I got for my mother for her birthday which is on Christmas Eve, and the hair ties I got that are the neon ones that don’t break your hair.

178 There are three, pink, {my favorite} orange, and green.

I also got this Grapefruit Body Frosting. I am on the fence about it. The consistency feels weird and awesome at the same time. I like the smell, but I am not sure how moisturizing it actually is.

It really does look like frosting, like you could eat it, but I won’t.

I got two Julep polishes because I have never tried them.

This one is 180  Zoe , and the yellow is Abbie.

I like the way they go on. The formula is nice and one dip in the bottle goes a long way. The set I got for my Mom is the Breast

Cancer support trio. I don’t want to open it to look at the colors, but they all look gorgeous. I hope you are having a great Christmas and holiday. I will be back with part two which consists of Lush, MAC, and NYX once I try them all!!!

Live Life Girly!

People are Selling the Sh*t out of Some Sh*t!

I am just amazed by the amount of things people are selling around here. I know that it isn’t just because of Christmas, but it brings out the salesman in everyone. You have Origami Owl Necklaces, Thirty One, Avon, Mary Kay, and all types of things. The things just keep being offered to me, and I have to make myself not buy them, because they are all so pretty, and I can think of a million different reasons I need them.

I am not saying anything bad about selling things. I bought some thirty one {I DID NOT NEED} recently from a friend, and I have a KitsyLane store. I have made six whole dollars from it! I am just thinking that eventually everyone is going to be selling everything. I mean people are going to have to just trade pretty soon. Everyone is trying to make money, but there are like 6 Avon reps in the same place. It just doesn’t work. I know I am kind of babbling, but it is just something I have been thinking of lately and I wanted to bring it to your attention that I have been thinking about it.

What do they sell in different parts of the world? Do you have the same types of products that people try to get me to buy, and mostly succeed, here? I really want to know.

I also kind of feel like Origami Owl Necklaces is something I could make with trinkets from yard sales and craft stores, but that might just be me. I am not attempting to offend anyone but look at it, just look at it! I am just saying people are selling the sh*t out of a whole lot of sh*t around here and it is just insanity.

DIY Paper Nail Decals

I didn’t think it was possible for me to find a simpler way to do nail art. I tried lots of things; reverse stamping, acrylic paint, stripers, dotting tools. It all works, but this is the best thing that has ever happened to my nails! I learned the trick to cheap, cute nail transfers.

The answer, printing them on regular printer paper. Who knew? I have to give credit where credit is due. I saw the idea here – http://blog.modcloth.com/2012/07/18/nail-klub-get-geek-week-chic-with-diy-nail-transfers/

That got me into doing some research, and thinking there had to be printable decals online, which led me here – http://www.small-good-things.com/archives/3577 and then she led me to here – http://mitoca.blog73.fc2.com/blog-category-3.html

There is where you can print your own. I printed off her cute decals, and then I Googled colorful backgrounds and printed off a lot of them. I got some cute ones, and sized them way down to make them nail appropriate.

Now the lady in the blog bought nail waterslide decal paper. I did not. I just used good old printer paper. It worked like a dream! Here is the video!!

You just need ;

cotton balls
print paper
a printer
cuticle or smaller scissors
a bottle of rubbing alcohol
a light colored base coat {white, pink, etc.}

At the beginning of the video I had on a gold metallic color, they didn’t transfer to it well.

I hope you will try this out!!

Help Me Pin Naked to Win Naked

Hi Blogging Beauties!!

I may be daft, but I cannot figure out what I am supposed to do to enter this contest. I welcome any and all assistance. So you sign up with your Pinterest name and email. You follow the UD boards. I have it up to that point. Then I don’t know what to do, do I post things that I think could have inspired the palettes on just one of the boards I already have? Do I create a new board, is there a hashtag. Help please, and forever be my best friend!!
